The Knitwear Edit: Everything you need for A/W

The Knitwear Edit: Everything you need for A/W

Well, I think we can safely say that winter has well and truly now kicked in. As well as coats, jumpers are my favourite thing to wear during the colder months. There  is no better feeling than curling up by an open fire with a hot chocolate or glass of wine and a super cosy knit that you can just sink into.

So, with so many to choose from, and the high street luring you into every colour and pattern known to man, how do you know which ones to buy, what is the quality like and whether it will last you through the seasons? Here are some things I think about when I buy my buy my winter knits.

  1. Buy less and buy well – over the years I have spent a lot of money on high street ‘high fashion’ jumpers. I’ve realised now that this doesn’t work for me as as I end up buying so many ever year and then not wearing the older ones. So now, I think about what is ‘missing’ in my wardrobe and generally tend to stick to wool and cashmere only. I do of course buy the odd ‘trendy’ item, but I try to keep this to a minimum.
  2. Think about the prints and patterns – Do you really need fluorescent stripes or stars or slogans on what you wear? I personally love a bit of detail, but it’s not for everyone so think about what you will wear it with and what the quality is like.
  3. Colours – the colours you wear are personal to you, and remember just because someone else looks good in a pink jumper, doesn’t mean you will. Find your colour palette and stick to it. I love neutrals, black, grey and 50 shades of beige. These colours make my wardrobe more versatile as I can wear them with anything. I do love a pop of colour as much as the next person though so I will always have a bit of red in there too.
  4. Sizing – go big or go home (only kidding!) Actually I do prefer my knits to be slightly oversized, especially at the moment with my growing bump. But think about the occasions that you’re going to be wearing them for. ie work may require something more fitted and smarter looking. So it’s good to have a bit of a mixture in your wardrobe of fitted ones and looser ones.

I hope that helps you to think about what you’re buying this season, and with those tips in mind, here are my top picks to see you through the winter and beyond.

Happy shopping

Lisa
