Beauty: My make up essentials

Beauty: My make up essentials

When it comes to make up and beauty I tend to stick with what I know and love. As a result, i’ve used the same products for many years. It takes a lot for me to change, or factor in something new as I always fear it will upset my skin and general routine. I’m a big believer of ‘if it aint broke, don’t fix it’ with skincare.

As a mum, I generally have very little time for beauty and make up. In fact actually having a shower and washing my hair is an achievement some days. Although I do have to do it for work, so I make an effort now and again.  It is for all of these reasons that the few products I choose to use need to be bloody good. I need things that are easy and quick to apply and do what they say they are going to. Believe it or not, there aren’t that many products out there like that, and I’ve tried and tested a lot over the years. So I thought I would share my life-saving essentials in the make-up stakes. I wear these every day. To work or to the park. They make me feel a little bit more ‘me’, and take only a few minutes to apply. Click on the picture links to take you directly to the products.

I hope you enjoy…

Soleil Terribly – By Terry (Summer Nude)

First up is the Soleil Terribly By Terry. I discovered this years ago in Space NK as I was looking for a bronzer. I don’t wear foundation as I am useless at applying it and getting it even so I wanted something that was super light and easy to use. I have olive skin so I need something with a bronzing element to it. I can honestly say that if I was stranded on a dessert island this is the one make up item I would take. It makes you glow the minute you put it on. It doesn’t really offer any coverage like foundation so if you’re looking for that, this is not your thing. But it can be applied with concealer etc if you just have bits that need covering up.

Filmstar Bronze and Glow by Charlotte Tilbury (Light-Medium)

Being useless at applying foundation means that I need to have a good bronzing powder to offer me additional coverage and colour if I want to look like I’ve vaguely put some make-up on. I’m a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury. All of her products are fantastic quality and really do what they say on the tin. The bronzing colours are perfect skin shade tones and not orange at all. The highlighter within this duo is also great for t-zone areas in the summer if you just want to add a bit of a shimmer.

Model Co highlighting cream trio

This highlighter has actually been a relatively recent discovery for me (around 6 months or so). I received it in my Birchbox back at the end of last year. I’m generally a bit useless when it comes to contouring and highlighting, but when I received this, it looked really appealing so I thought I would give it a go. And I have not looked back since. First of all, it’s a pot of cream which you can stick your finger in, so it’s really easy to apply and you can control how much is going on and where. Secondly, the pot is small enough to fit in any purse or handbag so it makes it to any ‘make-up essential’ list for me. Thirdly, the colours can be worn on your cheeks, lips or eyes. I tend to use the pink shade on my cheek bones, the white colour on my eyebrow arch and the bronzing colour on my eyes. In the summer I might use the bronzing colour on my cheeks more as I will be more tanned. This little pot really was a revelation for me and I take it everywhere.

Charlotte Tilbury lipstick (Super Cindy)

Every woman needs a nude lipstick in their life. I actually own two, the other one is Bitch Perfect, also by Charlotte Tilbury. I tend to use this one more as it’s slightly brighter on the lips for my skintone. The quality of the lipstick is fantastic, it lasts for ages, even on me and I drink about 10 litres of water a day! It’s also a really good shape to apply on the lips. I have relatively thin lips (much to my annoyance!) and the top of this lipstick is shaped perfectly for them. It’s also a really moisturising lipstick so doesn’t dry your lips out.
